Because symbolism exists in religion, can a new belief system be created based entirely on art?

Another IB Art project. I spent about four hours on this, and I'm so pleased. :D My family was just like "okay..." but I really like it. Tried to copy the Chinese ink style but it doesn't look nearly as cool. x_X Original is a little less than two feet wide.

Mostly experimental, but I'm really happy with the looseness. Please no criticism - I'm not exactly skilled in this medium and I don't plan to redo it again.

Rice paper//Chinese ink stones
Ignatius is mine.

I like it, it looks like an old-school Chinese-style watercolor painting.

So indeed, you succeeded at the effect, in my opinion. XD

Such beauty and grace! You captured the asian style, but this....this is so much better! I don't see how this could recieve ANY critisism...and if it does, fuck them. because clearly they do not know art when they see it.

Was that question--about a belief system based on art--hypothetical, rhetorical, introspective, random/inspired, or provacative? (Provacative in the context of you pose the question with an ear toward it getting reponded to.) I ask, because I'm curious. And, if it's the last, I'm easily provoked in that context. If it's just those other ones, then I've got this to say--and boy is it deep--:

Rice paper is cool.

Yeah, basically. Since all religions have a background story (or several), and where the art is depicting the story, so can there be art resembling previously existing religious stances or ideas without any background, and still be considered religious? The answer's purely based on the viewer, since everyone has a strong opinion on religion. :P

Rice paper is cool when you don't mix it with tape. Then life sucks.

Did you know that when you make a katana, then you make a sheath to put it into, you glue that sheath together with rice? I believe it, especially after that one time I went to Kokoro and couldn't get out of my chair...

Let's define religion real quick, for the sake of argument: religion, noun: a system of beliefs by which a person can determine right from wrong, and divine the nature of the universe. I think that's a pretty good definition. Go ahead and make a new one, if it doesn't work for you.

By this definition, art could be the bases of a religion. Very easily.
